Known by the locals as Lampang Lake, Kiu Lom Dam and Reservoir is a serene location to experience the scenic natural surroundings of Lampang. The dam was originally constructed for irrigation purposes. In 2003, it was transformed into an idyllic reservoir in hope of boosting tourism to the province.
In the winter of 2006, I had the pleasure of joining a group of dancers from Laos and our Thai host from Chiang Mai on very relaxing rafting cruise on the Lake. I’ve been going back and forth to Lampang since 1981 and this was my first time on this reservoir!
We stocked up on South American wine we bought in Chiang Mai, drove down to Lampang and then headed towards the lake on the Lampang-Ngao Road. Before arriving, we picked up some local snacks for the cruise – sticky rice, BBQ chicken, papaya salad and nam prik ong (Chiang Mai dipping sauce). Our raft was ready and waiting at the pier.
