His Holiness the Dalai Lama gives teachings throughout the year at various times and in different places throughout the world. His Holiness also gives public talks. In India, teachings and public talks are usually free and open to the public. However, to attend teachings and public talks outside of India one usually is required to purchase a ticket. The proceeds from the ticket sales are used to cover the costs of the venue and other expenses related to His Holiness’s visit.

Inauguration of Rato Monastery in Mundgod, Karnataka, India on January 31: His Holiness will inaugurate Rato Monastery in the morning.
Teaching in Mundgod, Karnataka, India from February 1 to 5: His Holiness will give teachings on Commentary on the Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way (tsashay ketrid sindrid) & Tara Blessing Empowerment (dolma jenang) on February 1 and 2 at Drepung Lachi Monastery. This will be followed by conferment of Yamataka Initiation (jigje wang) on February 5 at Gaden Shartse Monastery, On February 6 morning His Holiness will confer a Buddha Maitreya Blessing Empowerment (jampa gonpo jenang) followed by a long life offering ceremony at Gaden Shartse Monastery.

Kalachakra for World Peace in Washington, DC, USA from July 6 to 16: During the first three days of the Kalachakra, from July 6 through 8, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, along with the monks of Namgyal Monastery and senior lamas, will conduct rituals which prepare and consecrate the venue. These include chanting of prayers, creation of the sand mandala and other ancient rituals. From July 9 to 11, His Holiness will give preliminary teachings (topic yet to be decided) for Kalachakra. On July 12, The Kalachakra Ritual Dance will be performed by the monks of Namgyal Monastery. His Holiness will give the Kalachakra empowerment from July 13 to 15. On July 16, a ceremony offering prayers for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be performed. Kalachakra 2011 is organized by the Capital Area Tibetan Association.
