Slideshow of photos taken on a walk around the Upper Chakkar (Sisters Bazaar), Landour in late October 2011 starting from the back of the chakkar at Char Dukan and past Lal Tibba where spectacular views of the snowcapped Himalayan Garhwal mountain range (Bandarpunch -“Hanuman’s Tail” ) blow me away every time. We carry on past the cemetery where Mr Kapadia rests in peace until we reach Kellogg Church before turning down towards Rokeby Manor where we indulge in a delicious buffet breakfast after our enjoyable walk that morning.
Most of us who attended Woodstock School still possess very fond memories of the Upper Chakkar (“Ring Road”) in Landour, Mussoorie. For those who haven’t been back to Sisters Bazaar for awhile, rest assured that the views from the chakkar are just as beautiful today and the strong scent of Deodars (Himalayan Ciders) is everlasting. There are a few more buildings, timely restorations and new pushtas (retaining walls) along the all-weather chakkar but barely any traffic to write home about.
